In an attempt to keep myself blogging more consistently this year, I’ve embarked on a 52 week photo challenge (again). I’ll most likely post those photos with regular blog posts, but I’ll keep them here as well. This particular challenge comes from the Life in 52 Project, hosted by My Four Hens Photography.
I have always had an interest in photography, but started to take a much more serious approach before my first son was born almost six years ago. I purchased a Canon Rebel camera and vowed (mostly to my husband in order to prove that I wasn’t wasting my money) that I would use it. And I have! I have followed through with about five things as a mother, but using this camera is one of them.
I eventually outgrew my trusty Rebel and upgraded to a full-frame Canon 6D. I currently shoot my photos with that and a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. My next big upgrade will certainly be to a wider angle lens so I can document more of the day-to-day happenings in my life.
I’m proud of myself for learning how to get off of auto-mode, use a wide angle lens and edit with Lightroom and Photoshop. I once dabbled in newborn photography, but it’s tough to start a small business and run it well, teach full time and still feel as though I’m giving enough to my family. For me, it wasn’t in the cards at that time. For now, I keep taking photos to satisfy my love of photography and creativity, and to document my family’s adventures along the way.
